Fornasetti Plates with More Than Ten Thousand Designs

Feb 23rd

A year ago I had opportunity to decorate several interiors with decorative fornasetti plates pieces that captivated me. They were urns-vases by Piero Fornasetti . Sensation when seeing them was of vibration, of magical realism. Each of objects and pieces designed by Fornasetti are like an open door to another world.  Piero Fornasetti was born in Milan and was a painter, writer, sculptor, interior decorator and creator of one of most extensive productions of objects and furniture of twentieth century, with more than 10,000 designs.

So much versatility infected his work and made hundreds of fornasetti plates variations on same subject. Classic creative line but irreverent and daring in his proposals, made him be unique and different. Decoration ranges from furniture, tableware, cushions, to lamps and wallpaper. Suns, moons, faces, cats, keys and locks, butterflies, Italian palaces … motifs represented in his work are very varied and original.

Do not you attract face that appears in all his work? It seems that fornasetti plates was inspired by a famous soprano from New York’s Metropolitan Opera called Lina Cavalieri . Artist was fascinated by beauty of singer when he saw his picture in a French magazine. He became his muse and, probably, never met! Now his son Barnaba continues to create and perpetuate his father’s work, with new designs that continue a wonderful legacy. Despite years that have passed since first ones, they have not lost relevance.
